Toronto 2018

A fairly smooth ride overnight and again, we got to see something different as we were on the other side of the train.  The highlight was going through Ruby Canyon again.  This is a place that has no roads so the only way to see this canyon is on the train. Ruby Canyon Ruby Canyon New sight at Sacramento Station - don't know what was going on.  When we left the station there was a big speech about the ramifications of smoking on the train and emphasizing that it was a federal offence (?) Donner Pass Hwy 101 around San Jose just bumper to bumper for many miles Boy, if I had to live in the Bay area I think I would jump off a cliff!  Horrible to live with all that traffic, all those people, and on and on.

Another walk around town and then it was time to board the train for Emeryville. Decided we would wait until we got there to see if we would drive south or spend the night.   Also it's another opportunity to see Jeanette who would like us to spend another evening with her.  We'll see how we feel and what time we get in.

OMG what a fantastic town this is!  Cute downtown, spotlessly clean and very artistic! There are two major public art exhibits in the downtown area.  The first is the Art on the Corner project which was started in 1984 and consists of over 100 sculptures in a variety of mediums and styles.  The second is the Legends Sculpture Project which showcases the stores of those historically significant men and women who have shaped the Grand Valley.   A small sampling . . . An interesting discovery on a side street as we walked the riverwalk. Since it is Easter Sunday all car rental places were closed so we couldn't go to the Colorado National Monument. I borrowed this image. Gotta say - I could live here.

Interesting day going through the Colorado Rockies.   Since we have the same room we had going to Illinois we got to see the view on the other side of the train. We had the same experience, though, going through Moffat Tunnel - uncomfortable to say the least! What a lovely surprise to get off the train in Grand Junction to 73 degrees!  Wonderful!   Looking forward to spending a couple of days in this small town and Norm is thrilled that he is now officially back in shorts.
