Berkeley

It was raining quite hard when we woke up this morning so after breakfast we went back to the room for a nap.  By the time we woke up, the rain had pretty much stopped and so we were off!

The architecture in Berkeley is very interesting, varying from Victorian to modern, living side by side, a whole different feel to the city.  Parking lots are not easily identified as the buildings that have parking have store fronts or apartments above and below the actual parking area and it seems that only traditional outdoor parking lots have any parking signs.

We went to the Amtrak Station to find out where their parking lot was.  We had actually driven around it a couple of times, then went across the tracks thinking it might be on the other side and finally finding nothing went inside the station.  Felt a bit foolish when we were told it was in the multi-story building next door [looked like an apartment building] where we could see the parking lot was on the second floor once we looked very closely.  Of course, no signage.

Then off to the campus of the University of California, Berkeley.  A very different feel and architecture from other universities we have explored.  The highlight was a visit to the Sather Tower with its' 360 degree views (even though not a nice clear day).

A walk up the street once we got back to the hotel showed us a small sign saying Fox Court and a very small walkway.

As we were reading the sign a woman saw us and asked if we would like to see inside.  She had a code to access this amazingly pretty spot with tiny residences (she was a resident) and we were delighted to walk through.
